About Lurssen

Lurssen
Germany
+49 4216604166
Lurssen is one of the world's leading shipyards. Operated by the Lurssen family for four generations, the company originated over 140 years ago. The yacht manufacturer is based in Germany, with headquarters in Bremen-Vegesack and five further yards in northern Germany. Collaborating with some of the world's most famous yacht designers, Lurssen builds superyachts and naval ships of the highest quality for demanding customers all over the world.

Friedrich Lurssen started the company in 1875 at the age of 24. He initially wanted to join his father's boatyard but his father encouraged Friedrich to set up on his own as it would be challenging for one company to feed two families.

Within 11 years he built the very first motor boat, Rems, with Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach in 1886. Named after a tributary of the river Neckar in Germany, the boat was powered by an 1,5 PS gasoline engine.

Otto Lurssen, the son of Friedrich Lurssen, evolved the Lurssen Werft further to an innovative manufacturer of racing boats like the Daimler II (reached a top speed of 35 knots on the Weser), Maybach-Donnerwetter (35 knots) or the Saurer-Lurssen from 1911 that reached a maximum speed of 32 knots. The Saurer-Lurssen won the "Grand Prix de Monte Carlo" off the coast of Monaco.

Friedrich Lurssen (who manages the yard in the 4th generation together with Peter Lurssen) says: "The history of the shipyard is still closely linked to our own family history and that of many of our staff. The family and staff's genuine identification with the shipyard business and an informal company structure with tight employee loyalty have always been supporting pillars of our success. In addition to technical expertise and practical skills, high levels of flexibility and strength of innovation among our workforce have been the decisive drivers of growth in our shipyard business as a specialty supplier of high-technology ship construction since the beginning."

Gert and Fritz-Otto, the third generation of Lurssen family members, became involved in the late 1930s and remained in place after the war years. That period saw the shipyard continue producing powerboats for private clients and the German navy alike. The naval craft included patrol boats, anti-mine vessels, frigates, and corvettes. They remain important contracts for Lurssen.

Many people think of megayachts as thoroughly modern marvels, but the 55m Pegasus II (now Platinum), for example, was delivered in 1962. This side of business has grown tremendously under the guidance of Friedrich and Peter Lurssen, who took over in the late 1980's. Presently 25 of the 100 largest yachts were built by Lurssen. Azzam, the third year running largest yacht of the world, was also constructed by the shipyard. She took over Abramovich's Eclipse in 2013. Lurssen is also responsible for the year's most secretive and largest vessel-the 156m Project Omar, reportedly built for the Russian billionaire Alisher Usmanov. As for the other megayachts, their names are well-known: Al Said, Topaz, Al Salamah, Rising Sun, Octopus, Golden Odyssey (formerly known as project Tatiana), Katara...

According to a source close to the story, an 88m project at Lurssen would cost close to 130 million euro depending on interior design. Quatroelle was reportedly sold to a new owner under a year after its delivery at a profit which shows just how popular and desired the Lurssen Yachts have become.

As much as the yachts gain fame for their LOAs, it's important to focus on the people who have made them possible. Lurssen employs more than 1,000 people just at its Bremen facility. Over the years with their help, Lurssen has launched more than 13,000 yachts and ships.

Peter Lurssen, CEO of Lurssen Yachts, said: "As a family company it makes us proud and happy to be able to look back, in a turbulent industry, on 140 years of successful shipbuilding history on the River Weser. At the same time, our company anniversary motivates us as a family business to continue manufacturing unique ships for the global market together with our employees and to successfully live up to our great-grandfather's motto to impress through performance and quality."

Fourth Pershing GTX116 Launched
The fourth hull of the Pershing GTX116 was launched in Fano on July 10. This new unit, designed for the US market, exemplifies a blend of elegance and sporty character, achieved through the collaboration of Ferretti Group’s Product Strategy Committee, yacht designer Fulvio De Simoni, and the Group’s Engineering Department.Measuring over 35 meters in length and 7.70 meters in beam, the GTX116 features a sleek, streamlined profile. The exterior showcases a hull in classic Pershing Monte Carlo grey, complemented by a unique superstructure shade derived from blending two different Pershing greys. The glossy black hardtop and radomes provide contrast, while extensive glazing allows natural light to flood the interiors, creating a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. The main deck's large salon includes a bar with four Poltrona Frau stools in steel and pecan-colored leather, and a centrally positioned couch in pale shades of grey and ivory. Two Minotti armchairs add to the refined decor. The galley and other areas maintain a consistent color palette, enhancing the overall design continuity. Customization is a key feature of the GTX116, with interiors tailored using several partner brands to ensure a comfortable living experience. The lower deck houses the owner’s cabin and four guest cabins, featuring glossy black detailing. Image Gallery: Inside Grand Soleil 72 Long Cruise
Cantiere del Pardo has released the first detailed images of the Grand Soleil 72 Long Cruise, a bluewater yacht designed for long-distance sailing. Captured by Fabio Taccola, the photos highlight the yacht's design, which was crafted by Matteo Polli with exterior and interior layout by Nauta Design. The Grand Soleil 72 Long Cruise, or LC, builds on the success of the Grand Soleil 72 Performance (P) model. It features a raised and extended deckhouse, providing additional saloon space and a deeper cockpit. The yacht's sleek lines and enhanced comfort are intended for safe maneuvering, even with a reduced crew. The onboard systems are designed to optimize resource management and minimize fuel consumption."The Grand Soleil 72 project was always meant to include an exceptional Long Cruise version," said Franco Corazza, project manager for Grand Soleil's over 60ft fleet. "Combining tradition and innovation, this yacht leverages our experience in advanced composites and the expertise of our Made in Italy partners."The LC version introduces a raised deckhouse, creating a 270-degree panoramic view from the 20-square-meter saloon. This area is divided between a large dining table for eight and a comfortable sofa to starboard. An offset companionway reconfigures the spacious cockpit to include a larger C-shaped sofa without sacrificing twin sunbeds at the aft end. This design allows for two distinct social areas: one on deck and one below. The raised deckhouse also provides technical advantages. By elevating the roof and floor slightly, additional space is created below deck for electrical and mechanical systems, freeing up room elsewhere on the yacht. Despite these modifications, the LC version adds no more than 500kg to the displacement.Naval architect Matteo Polli, known for optimizing race boats, designed the Grand Soleil 72LC. The hull is constructed using vacuum infusion in epoxy-based vinylester with glass/carbon fiber and recycled PVC foam core. This construction ensures high performance on long offshore passages, with speeds exceeding true wind speeds up to 10 knots. The yacht can reach over 14 knots on a broad reach and 20 knots under optimal conditions. The Grand Soleil 72LC is equipped with a powerful sailplan, including options for a fat-head main, furling gennaker, Code sail, and staysail. Sail handling is facilitated by a self-tacking jib and large electric winches, with controls accessible from the twin helm stations.Nauta Design, renowned for its work with Grand Soleil, crafted the yacht's interior to maximize space and comfort. The saloon offers expansive views through deckhouse windows and skylights. The design includes intelligent storage solutions and complete amenities, with two possible galley configurations and a master cabin forward for privacy and natural light.Guest accommodations include two large cabins configurable as doubles or twins, each with ensuite options. The captain's cabin can be used as a fourth guest room or dedicated crew space. The interior features high-quality upholstery, fine woods, and stainless steel detailing in three palette options: warm teak, dark walnut, or limed oak. This creates a contemporary and welcoming space."Our owners are passionate about the entire journey, from design and construction to delivery," said Corazza. "They appreciate the expertise of our team, many of whom are professional sailors providing unparalleled advice."Cantiere del Pardo was founded in 1973 in Italy. Pardo Yachts, the brand of Cantiere del Pardo dedicated to powerboats, was born in 2016. The first model, the Pardo 43, was launched in 2017. Grand Soleil was founded in 1973 and is famous for its yachts, which ensure performance for regattas, autonomous long-distance navigation, as well as a high level of sustainable consciousness.Credits: Fabio Taccola/Cantiere del Pardo
